Physical training is tough -- but you can level the playing field by using the very best training equipment available. In addition to the best running shoes and breathable fabrics, your equipment should include a GPS watch for running and interval training. But there are many different brands and models to choose from, so let's start by looking at the top three GPS watches on the market today.

At the low end of the price scale, you'll find the Timex Speed-Distance watch. One of the primary benefits of this sports watch is its ability to provide precise measurement. It not only measures speed and distance, but altitude as well. You might appreciate its auto pause feature, as well as its lap and target speed settings. Running at night is no problem, as the Indiglo night light provides a nice uniform glow of the surface of the dial. The watch contains a built-in GPS receiver that sends speed and distance data directly to the synchronized digital FM signal for visual display.

Runners will really appreciate the auto lap feature on the Timex Speed-Distance watch. This feature provides a programmed log of each lap that you travel, allowing you to focus on speed work. The auto pause feature allows you to hit the pause tab when you have to stop running -- it picks up again as soon as you resume your run.

Moving up the price scale, we find the Suunto X9M/I GPS watch. It is a visually stunning watch, with a black-on-black color palette and a red backlight for night use. Highlights also include a three-hundred-sixty degree compass, as well as 6400 MILS bearing display. If you wan to take off for a run without a predetermined route, the Suuno watch will record your position, speed and distance traveled. If necessary, it will even provide a guide to return you to your original position. You can use the digital mapping feature to track landmarks along your route, or use the uploadable preplanned routes to map out a new running course.

With more features than the Timex, the Suunto X9M/I GPS watch is easily regarded as one of the best choices for GPS running watches. However, the clear favorite seems to be Garmin's forerunner series of GPS watches.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 was the heavyweight in its weight class for quite a while. But the Forerunner 405 was introduced recently and is quickly becoming the go-to favorite for serious sports enthusiasts. The 405 is lightweight but feature-packed. It boasts a heart rate monitor and can be connected to your PC via a USB connection to easily track your stats. With more features, it's obviously a bit more expensive that the Timex or Suuno, but it actually more affordable than the similar Timex Body Link.

Each of these watches stand out as "best in class" for their individual price points, but you'll have to decide which one fits your budget and needs. They will all keep you on track -- and on time.

GPS Navigation - Garmin Nuvi 255W
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tim_Pecunia]Tim Pecunia
Although the Garmin Nuvi 255W is a budget offering from its manufacturers, it still carries a punch. This wide-screen version contains most of the characteristics of its more sophisticated contemporaries - including a responsive touch screen with clear imagery and vivid colors, an SD card slot for storage of additional maps, and the usual USB port for charging and synchronizing.

The Garmin Nuvi 255W is one of the best performers in its price range and includes text-to-speech technology, which means that it says the names of streets aloud with proper pronunciation most of the time (either a male or female voice). This model includes recreational and functional features such as world clock features, photograph viewer, currency rate converters, and calculator. Unfortunately it does not have MP3 or video playing capabilities.

The FM transmitter is sorely missed, and this is compounded by the absence of credible sound from the Garmin Nuvi 255W. Nevertheless, searching for an address and routing remains as hassle free, comfortable and easy as ever. The menu is so simple that not even a first time user would face any inconvenience, due to the large icons and basic Graphical User Interface.

The search order needs to be corrected, but this is the case with most Garmin GPS devices - even the more expensive models. An extremely interesting and helpful feature is the "where I am" menu which enables us to find the exact coordinates of our location and also to trace the whereabouts of nearby hospitals, petrol pumps, and police stations. The device also has the ability to remember favorite locations, and recent history of locations visited.

Pioneer is one of the most recognized brands in the car audio industry. They make car cd players, subwoofers, and amplifiers. The Pioneer car CD player DEH-P3800MP is an entry level car cd player manufactered with the casual car audio enthusiast in mind. Being moderately priced this Pioneer car CD player is a great buy.

The DEH-P3800MP comes with several features that make it a great deal as they can be had anywhere from $90 to $130. These features are MP3/WMA support, XM or Sirius satellite radio capability, and a large 16 character display. Lets go into to futher detail about each of these awesome features.

1) MP3/WMA support - This Pioneer car CD player has the capability to support CD-R discs burned with MP3's or WMA's. A 700 megabyte CD-R can hold up to 10 full MP3 albums or nearly 20 WMA albums. This feature is great for those of us who have a large collection of music on our computers.

2) XM or Sirius satellite radio - The Pioneer car CD player DEH-P3800MP is manufactured with support for these two formats of satellite radio. This means if you already subscribe to either one of these services than you do not have to purchase another radio receiver. Satellite radio is the "next big thing" in the media industry, with thousands of stations, high definition sound playback, and limited commercial interruption. This feature in and of itself makes this Pioneer car CD player a great buy.

3) 16 Character Display - This Pioneer car CD player supports ID-3 tags, which allow you to burn the artist name, album name, and track names, onto the disc itself. The large 16 character display allows you to see this information right on your car CD player. You will also be able to see the FM radio stations frequency and station name with this technology.

All and all the DEH-3800MP Pioneer car CD player is an awesome buy. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to upgrade their stock car CD player.

Before I had my Garmin Nuvi Portable Vehicle GPS, finding my way to out of town destinations was stressful. I'm just bad at reading maps and seem to always forget which exit to take no matter how often I've taken the same route.

But, ever since the purchase of my Garmin GPS, I've become confident of finding my way around. I stopped asking my wife which exit to take and having arguments with her about my driving.

The Garmin GPS sits on top of our dashboard and is powered through the lighter outlet. We've set it up to show a bird's eye view virtual map of our current location. The virtual map on the screen changes to reflect our vans' movement. We can zoom in or zoom out.

Before we take a trip, we give our little GPS device the address of our destination. If we think we'll be going to the same destination often, we will add it to our favorites. Our Garmin voice tells which exit to take, which street to turn to and how many miles, feet and time remains before reaching our destination. If we miss an exit or turn, our Garmin will recalculate or suggest a route to get back on course.

Every time we drive out of town, we also look for a place to eat. Our Garmin helps us find nearby restaurants. I could go on and name a dozen other times our Garmin has made our driving experience a lot easier. It is truly indispensable.

The range of options and variety of brands and models can make choosing a GPS system a little confusing. Price is an obvious consideration but so are the built in features and available options, how and where you intend to use your GPS and what kind of directional assistance would be most helpful for your particular needs. When deciding which GPS product is right for you, considering the answers to some of the following questions will help you navigate through the maze of available products and find the right one for your needs.

- Are you looking for basic GPS navigation for you car to help get you around town or something with a few more features that would be helpful on trips?

- Are you looking for a GPS system with more versatility? Perhaps a unit that could be used in a car and/or outdoors hiking, biking or sightseeing?

- Are you looking for a feature packed system that provides spoken navigation and a variety of additional information, traffic and weather, compatibility with Bluetooth devices XM radio and more?

- Are you looking for activity specific GPS capabilities for use during hunting, fishing/marine use, or fitness training?

The following information is offered as a guide to assist you in determining which product is right for you. It is not a review of any specific brand or model. The brands mentioned are only used as examples of the kind of GPS being discussed. Keep in mind as you consider your needs that many GPS systems designed for use in a car can easily be carried in a pocket, purse or pack and used to navigate on foot. And likewise, many handheld products can be mounted in a car, boat, ATV or on a bicycle and when installed with street map software, can be used to navigate on streets and highways.

GPS products with basic capabilities will be able, literally, to get you from point A to point B by utilizing one or more saved "Way points". These type devices do not offer mapping capability. You can think of way points as pebbles left behind you as you make your way. To return, you move back along your route, collecting the pebbles you left to mark the way. Basic models function in much this way, dropping the "pebbles" for you and pointing the way back to them to lead you home. Examples for use of this type GPS might be saving the location of your parked car at a crowded shopping mall or sports facility when you arrive so you could easily find your way back when you are ready to leave. Or instead of a parked car you might save the location of your campsite and points of interest along a hike and then easily navigate back at the end of the day. Examples of these types of handheld GPS units would include:

- Bushnell's Backtracker Personal Location Finder

- Garmin eTrex H

- Garmin Foretrex 101 and 201

- Geko 201

- Garmin GPS 60, 72, and 76

Basic automobile GPS navigation requires a bit more sophistication than seen in the previously mentioned handhelds. These products offer pre-loaded maps, color screens, and greater memory capacity and are the types of products you would want to consider for use in a vehicle or for back country hiking, hunting or fishing. Beginning level examples of these products would be:

- Garmin Nuvi 200, 205, 205W

- Magellan Roadmate 1200, 1400,

- Magellan Maestro 3200 series

Moving up a notch consider products like the following handheld units for outdoor activities :

- Garmin eTrex Legend, Venture HC, Vista,

- Garmin GPSMAP 60

- Magellan Triton 200

Moving up to the mid-level you may want to consider products like these for your car:

- Garmin Nuvi 250, 255, 260, 265, 270 series

- Magellan 1412

- Navigon 2000S

And for outdoor handhelds:

- Garmin eTrex Summit HC, Vista HCx, GPSMAP 76S

- Bushnell ONIX200

- Magellan Triton 300

- DeLorme PN-20

Moving up to more advanced products does not mean struggling with products that are difficult to use. Features such as touch screens and spoken turn by turn directions make these automobile GPS products very easy to use. Advanced products provide a greater number of features and a higher level of functionality and versatility. Options such as XM radio, Traffic updates, or other services are included or can be added with some of the more advanced models. Some of these options require the purchase of monthly subscriptions. Examples of these products for your vehicle would be:

- Garmin Nuvi 265WT, 275T, 500, 550, 750, 755T, 760, 765T, 775T, 780, 785T, 855

885T, 5000

- Garmin Zumo 550

- Garmin Streetpilot 7200

- Magellan Maestro series

- Navigon 2200T, 2100MAX, 7200T, 8100T

Advanced handheld GPS models generally offer more internal memory or the ability to add mapping and other content using data storage cards. Mapping data can be downloaded to the card and the card plugged into the device. In this way one device can be used to navigate city streets, inland lakes or coastal areas, or trails in a national park depending on the mapping software installed. These types of handhelds include:

- Garmin Oregon and Colorado series

- Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx, 60CSx, 76Cx, 76 CSx

- Magellan Triton 1500, 2000

- Bushnell ONIX350, ONIX400

- DeLorme PN-40

There is a group of advanced products which should be mentioned separately because they not only offer excellent automobile navigation features but can be used for marine GPS navigation on the water or on a trail as well. These GPS models are referred to as crossover or hybrid GPS units and include the following examples:

- Garmin Nuvi 500, 550

- Garmin GPSMAP 276C, 478C, 620, 640

- Lowrance XOG

Another group of handheld GPS is designed with a specific use or feature in mind. Some specialized handheld models provide basic GPS navigation but are also coupled with enhanced specialized functionality. Others do not offer GPS navigation but use GPS technology to gather data used in activities such as fitness or sports training. Examples include:

- Garmin Astro - Handheld GPS that can also be used to track hunting dogs.

- Garmin Rino - Handheld GPS with 2-way radio capability.

- Timex Ironman - GPS worn on the wrist. Tracks such things as time and distance for running, biking, and swimming fitness training.

- Garmin Edge, Forerunner, and Foretrex - Edge is a Personal Training/Biking calculator using GPS for fitness training. Forerunner and Foretrex are other examples of wrist mounted GPS, Forerunner for fitness training and Foretrex offering basic way point GPS navigation.

This has not been an all encompassing discussion of GPS products but I hope this information will help you understand the differences between some of the more popular models when choosing which is the right GPS for you.

Perhaps you want a Garmin GPSMAP that can go anywhere with you. One weekend you might be boating, another weekend mountain biking. You want crossover navigator maps so you don't have to purchase separate GPS systems for every vehicle you own. Depending on your needs, there are many different Garmin GPS navigation systems, depending on what you'll be using them for.

Garmin knew that active individuals needed a reliable crossover device to help them navigate their way. In this world of James Bond caliber adventure, we find ourselves traveling by various modes in our pursuits. At the very beginning of the Garmin line of GPS maps, there are aviation navigator maps for pilots to travel by land, air and sea, such as the GPSMAP 96 or 196, for example. From those basic grey-scale models, Garmin has advanced to full-color portable devices like the GPSMAP 495 and 496, adding airport maps, pre-loaded maps, 3,000 favorite locations, traffic information services, voice prompts, satellite radio and weather.

The 60 Series is very popular for people who want a mapping handheld Garmin GPSMAP for hiking, biking and exploring. As the site says, the Garmin GPSMAP 60cx "puts the great outdoors in the palm of your hand." The high-sensitivity of these GPS devices provides you with good satellite reception even in dense foliage or deep canyons. The screen is versatile and can be viewed during night or day conditions and can even survive a dunk in the water if it's encased in the IPX7.

The built-in America auto-route base map will show you highways, exits and tide information, in addition to offering turn-by-turn directions. To use, you can connect to your computer using a USB cable to load map data or transfer routes and custom locations; or you may be able to purchase 64 MB microSD cards that come pre-loaded with MapSource maps, so you don't have to hook up to your computer at all. The Garmin GPSMAP 60 takes you from the backwoods and boundary waters to the highways with 28 hours of reliable battery life, in addition to geocaching features, games, alarm clock functionality, as well as optimal hunting/fishing times and sunrise/sunset/moon phase tables.

A Garmin GPSMAP may come in various formats. When you're on the road, you'll probably be using "City Navigator" maps, which include over 6 million points of interest, traffic data and detailed street information. When you're sailing, you'll use the "Blue Chart" GPS navigation maps with 3-D perspective, coastal points of interest, depth contours, shipwreck locations and auto-guide technology. Hikers will use the "Topo US" maps that include terrain contours, elevation information, trails, bodies of water, routable roads and points of interest.

The Nuvi 1300 does not have lane assist, but all the other units in the series do.

The "T" suffix on the model number indicates that the unit has lifetime traffic included in the price (1350T, 1370T, and 1390T).

Two of these units, the Nuvi 1370T and the Nuvi 1390T have Bluetooth® wireless so you can use them for hands free calling with your Bluetooth® cell phone.

The Garmin Nuvi 1200 series debuts in June 2009. It is the latest of the long line of great automotive GPS units from Garmin.

The series consists of the Nuvi 1200, the Nuvi 1250, and the Nuvi 1260T.

All the GPS in this series are the same size (3.7"W x 2.9"H x .6"D) and the same weight (4.0 ounces). The screen size for each is 2.8"W x 2.1"H, 3.5" diagonal.

These units are twenty-five percent thinner than the previous models (0.6 inches versus 0.8 inches). With this thin profile and lighter weight the Nuvi 1200 series GPS easily fits in your pocket for walking around the city.

All three of the units in this series speak street names. This is the most important feature in an automotive GPS.

There are a few minor differences between the units in this series.

As you would expect, the Nuvi 1200 is the entry unit in the series. It has:

· 3.5 inch display (diagonal)
· Speaks street names
· Preloaded street maps for lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico
· Optional FM lifetime traffic information
· Where am I?
· Photo navigation
· ecoRoute™
· Optional MSN® Direct

Step up to the Nuvi 1250 and you get all the features of the Nuvi 1200 with preloaded street maps for North America plus speed limit indicator.

The next step up to the Nuvi 1260T gives you the features of the Nuvi 1250 plus FM lifetime traffic and Bluetooth® wireless.

The Garmin list prices for these units are:

· Nuvi 1200 $199.99
· Nuvi 1250 $249.99
· Nuvi 1260T $299.99

These prices will more than likely drop as these units become more mature in the marketplace. This has been the trend of most of the Garmin GPS units.

Amazon is accepting pre-orders with a projected ship date of June 28, 2009. See the resource information below to learn how to find more information about these new Garmin GPS units.

Garmin is one of the top manufacturers of global positioning systems in the United States. They offer a host of products from GPS navigational product for cars, boats and motorcycles to aviation and boats. There goal is to enrich the lives of their customers through the products of navigational equipment.

Beginning with GPS units for vehicles, Garmin began using the power of the 24 satellites circling 12,000 feet above us back in 1989 when the company started making GPS navigational systems for people and their cars. Today they are making the same product, only better. Garmin has kept up with the times and increase their products as the times called for them. Today they offer the vehicle GPS navigational unit, as well as the GPS for boats and airplanes and hikers and bicycle enthusiasts.

Garmin makes a remarkable assortment of GPS navigational units for every kind of moving vehicle and person. Today they put GPS navigation equipment in personal assistant machines which is a small travel aide; a cell phone and your computer. With the personal assistant, you can download your destination and the personal assistant will 'walk' you to your destination or as you are driving, give you turn-by-turn directions to get to where you are going. The cell phone is similar in that you download your information and the voice will guide you to your destination using a map of where you are now and an arrow following you as you walk to where you would like to be. And lastly we have the computer or laptop which can be used as a GPS navigational system by itself after you have downloaded the information.

Other Garmin GPS units include those for aviation use complete with longitude and altitude and the same is programmed into the marine GPS units. Some of these units are portable and can help you get around the city or town without your car and help you find restaurants, places of interest (POI) such as parks or ATM machines; they can also help you find an address you've never been to before. Besides aviation use, Garmin makes GPS units for marine usage as well. Being able to see the bottom of the lake or river or ocean in clear form is something fishermen have been waiting a long time for. Now they can tell a fish from a rock and discover where all the fish hang out and with the routing feature on the GPS, keep going back to the same spot over and over again.

Garmin GPS units can be found through their website or on other websites throughout the Internet. They can also be purchased at electronic stores and large discount stores for cheaper than the official website address has them. Discounted Garmin's would be found on the Internet, be buyer beware, sometimes people are selling 'refurbished' or 'reconditioned' Garmin GPS units and if that is not what you want, you should ask if it is a new unit or 're - done' unit.

Dakota 10 comes with built-in worldwide basemap, so you can navigate anywhere with ease. Adding more maps is easy with Garmin's wide array of detailed topographic, marine and road maps, which can be loaded to internal memory.
Dakota 10 Features:
# Sunlight-readable, 2.6-inch color touchscreen display
# High-sensitivity GPS with HotFix satellite prediction
# Built to withstand the elements: bumps, dust, dirt and water
# Preloaded with a worldwide basemap plus has 850 MB of free internal memory for map transfers

Display type: Transflective color TFT touchscreen
Weight: 5.25 oz (148.8 g) with batteries
Battery: 2 AA batteries (not included); NiMH or Lithium recommended

The main advantage of this Dakota unit is that it is better for paperless geocaching because it does display tips. The main disadvantage for geocachers, other than you can't see the screen in sunlight, is that this unit does NOT offer "proximity alerts" like the 60CSx, this means you have to hold the unit in your hands constantly and with the screen set at its brightest setting to find the nearest cache, this is not only cumbersome but it also drains your batteries much, much faster. Any GPS without proximity alert is as close to useless as it gets.

SkyCaddie are one of the bigger players in the Golf GPS market with a number of offerings to choose from. Here we review the SG5 model which promises to be a great little GPS system from looking at its specifications and features.

The SkyCaddie SG5 comes with a clear, simple to read color display that has easy viewing in all light conditions due to its automatically adjusting back lighting system. The unit is small enough to clip on to the users belt and not get in the way while playing a round of Golf. With it's simple to operate one touch controls and clear color display it makes a handy sized easy to use GPS.

One of the biggest claims that SkyCaddie make about their Golf GPS range is that it has the best accuracy of its competitors. The reason they make this claim is that each course they include for use in their systems are mapped by "certified" experts. These people are properly trained in the use of the SkyCaddie system walking each course marking and measuring each hole for hazards and the green. They go through this process three times to recheck everything. This they claim makes their information more accurate than the satellite systems that most of its competitors use.

Another great feature of this unit is SkyCaddie's patented Intelligreen software. This allows you to measure the green from absolutely any angle of approach.

As you can see the SkyCaddie SG5 has many great features although it is lacking some of the features of its competitors. Features like shot storage and round storage. The above features are available on many of its competitors units, these are nice things to have so you can get home and review you days round and compare it to your previous rounds.

While researching the information for this SkyCaddie SG5 golf GPS review we did find some user feedback that hinted that the software and setup of the unit was not the easiest task. With many of these stating that customer support was not that helpful leaving the new customer very frustrated.

In conclusion the SkyCaddie SG5 is not the best value for dollar on the golf GPS market. The only reason we can see why this unit would be your preferred choice would be if you valued the fact that the courses are mapped by humans and therefore should in theory be more accurate.

You'll find more honest user feedback based [http://www.yardagerangefinder.com/golf-gps/skycaddie-sg5/]SkyCaddie SG5 golf GPS reviews, as well as full consumer ratings for all the major golf GPS units and rangefinders at http://www.YardageRangefinder.com

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the Garmin eTrex handheld GPS unit. Whether you're hiking, bicycling, hunting, geocaching, camping, or involved in any outdoor adventure, this unit will satisfy your take-off urges. You don't spend lots of down time figuring out how to operate it, because the engineering put into this product makes it simple.

It weighs less than five ounces, and it measures 2 x 1.2 x 4.4 inches. The display screen is about 1.25 x 2.25 inches. It fits snugly in your hand or your shirt pocket, and it's sturdy enough to toss into your backpack. It's sturdy, period-it won't break if you drop it. In fact, it's been known to survive dunking, and the manufacturer boasts that its case is tough and waterproof. The buttons are on the side of the unit, making it easy to operate with one hand.

When you put the Garmin eTrex handheld GPS unit into action, you'll find that its menu is easy to access. Drop-down style choices are featured, and it accepts alphanumeric entry so that you can quickly type in your waypoint entry. If you hold down one of the buttons briefly, it'll mark your present location as one of your waypoints.

This eTrex unit tracks position from twelve satellites, and the tracking is continuous. The screen backlights so you can view details even in dense foliage or with little lighting. It pinpoints your position accurately within fifteen to twenty feet. There's an automatic track log so that you can review your last ten tracks, or just choose which ten you want to save. You can go back over your route in either direction.

This little unit has so many additional features. The Garmin eTrex handheld GPS unit will enable you to figure out your current speed as well as your average speed. The ability to display altimeter or barometer readings is nifty. The unit will provide you with sun-up or sundown time in your location, and with these various readings you can safety calculate your distance from your endpoint and the time you need to get there. Besides using it on the trail, it's also accurate when you place it on the dashboard of your car.

This model depends on your entries instead of an installed database, but you can download your travel data with your USB cable. You can also look for course mappers online that will enable you to plot out simple maps, which you can then load into your unit. The AA batteries you need to operate the Garmin eTrex handheld GPS unit will last a generous twenty-two hours, but as a matter of safety you should always pack spare batteries. Anyone who wants to journey out of doors for recreation or business-for instance, if you're traveling on the job and you want to hike-will find this unit invaluable.

Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts on a budget, the Garmin eTrex Handheld GPS comes with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver that locks onto satellite signals quickly and maintains accuracy even in the toughest conditions. And just like the popular eTrex, this little yellow wonder combines an intuitive interface and a rugged exterior into a lightweight handheld that fits in the palm of your hand.
